Citizens' Panel

South Tyneside have had a Citizens Panel consisting of around 1000 residents, who are representative of the make up of the Borough, since March 2000.

What does the Citizen's Panel do?

People who are on the citizens' panel help the Council with decisions about all sorts of issues including council services, the environment, regeneration and so on.

Who is on the Citizens' Panel?

All of our current members live in the borough of South Tyneside. They were randomly selected from the Postal Address File for South Tyneside then invited to join the panel. We regularly refresh the panel membership to give as many people the opportunity to take part.

Who uses the Citizens' Panel?

The Council is the main user of the Citizens Panel however we also extend the opportunity to consult our citizens panel to partners of the Council. These include the Police and Hospital Trust.

Can I join the Citizens' Panel?

Yes! We last refreshed the citizens’ panel two years ago and feel that it is time to update the membership. This time we have decided to give everyone who lives in the borough (aged over 18 years old), the opportunity to join and we are recruiting now.
