Bicycle theft

During 2007/2008 South Tyneside demonstrated a decrease in the level of theft of a bicycle with a reduction from 2.0 to 1.9 thefts per 1000 people.

Gateshead has the lowest rate at only 1 theft per 1000, followed by Sunderland at 1.2.

The highest level is in Newcastle, who show a level of 2.6 thefts per head of population.

South Tyneside has shown an overall improvement of 17.4% since targets were set in 2003-2004.

These figures (and other crime rate statistics) are reported to the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership Strategy Group to help prioritise police and partner resources.
