Criminal damage per 1000 population

In 2007/2008 South Tyneside reported a decrease in the rate of criminal damage from 38.3 to 24.7 per thousand people, since the baseline was set in 2003/2004.

This demonstrates a reduction rate reduction of 35.5%, which is above the regional reduction rate of 30%.

These figures demonstrate a steady improvement, with South Tyneside second only to North Tyneside who show a 37.8% reduction since the baseline was set in 2003 /2004.

The reduction in the rate of criminal damage is the result of the combined efforts of the Police, the Community and the Partners through the Local Strategic Partnership and the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership.

At a neighbourhood level, during the period of April to June 2007, two neighbourhoods (excluding the Town Centre) showed a Criminal Damage rate of over 65 per 1000 population.

This has since improved between July to April 2008, when there were no neighbourhoods with results in this category.

These figures (and other crime rate statistics) are reported to the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership Strategy Group and used to help prioritise police and partner resources.
