Vehicle crimes per 1,000 population

In 2007/8, South Tyneside had the second lowest level of vehicle crime in Tyne & Wear, which follows the trend of previous years. Our rate of 8.7 vehicle crimes per 1,000 population is below the average for Tyne & Wear (10.5). The only authority area with a lower level of vehicle crime in Tyne & Wear is North Tyneside (7.0 vehicle crimes per 1,000 population). The South Tyneside figures demonstrate a 22% improvement since the baseline was set in 2003-2004.

The reduction in the rate of vehicle crime is the result of the combined efforts of the Police, the Community and the Partners through the Local Strategic Partnership, and the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership.
