Woundings per 1000 population
In 2007-2008, South Tyneside demonstrated a level of 8.4 woundings per thousand people. This is in line with the Tyne and Wear average and below Sunderland and Newcastle, who show 9.7 and 9.8 respectively. North Tyneside shows the lowest rate at 6.0 per thousand population, followed by Gateshead at 6.8 per 1000 population. This is a reduction of 18.4% since targets of 11.4% reduction were set in 2003-2004. South Tyneside Actions to further reduce the rates of all violent crime are identified within the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership Plan 2008-2011.
These figures (and other crime rate statistics) are reported to the Crime and Disorder Partnership Strategy Group to help prioritise police and partner resources.
