About Adult and Community Learning Service:

South Tyneside has a great tradition of providing opportunities for people to learn for employment, to support their children through Family Learning or simply to learn a new skill or to find a new form of recreation. The Council's Adult and Community Learning Service offers informal and more formal learning in Community Centres across the Borough and Family Learning, where parents and children can learn together in many of our schools. We also operate work based learning that gives people the skills they need to find work.

Subjects:

Over 250 courses, everything from:

  • Languages; Spanish, Italian, French, Bengali, Portugese including Sign Language Level one and two.
  • Art and Crafts - Watercolours, Oils, Brush Strokes, Sugar Art, Cake decorating, Pottery, Parchment Craft, Mixed Crafts.
  • Workforce Development - Teaching Assistant and Creche worker Level 2
  • Computing - Introductory to Advanced Computer Skills; Digital photography, using the internet, Powerpoint presentations.
  • Skills for life - Improving essential skills in writing, spelling, number and communication skills, English as a second language, plus routes into Teaching assistant and Creche work.

 

Health and Safety:

The Adult and Community Learning Service have a responsibility for providing a safe and healthy learning environment for all its Learners. Learners also have a duty to take reasonable care for the Health & Safety of themselves and others. During induction the tutor will cover some of the health and safety issues including:

  • Evacuation – if the fire alarm sounds make your way to the nearest safe exit and the assembly point
  • Accident reporting – all accidents must be reported and recorded
  • Medical needs – if you need to take any medication or have a medical condition please inform your tutor
  • First aid – if you need any treatment please contact the tutor
