Adult and Community Learning is doing better than ever!

South Tyneside Adult and Community Learning Service (ACL) helps to achieve the outcomes from “Every Child Matters” by enabling people from age 16 to improve their lives through first steps learning, helping them to secure and sustain jobs. The Service also supports the well being of residents, families and neighbourhoods through learning for personal and community development. Everything we do is focused around delivering our ambitious vision for South Tyneside

Our young people will have new hope because they will have a bright future. People of all ages will have high aspirations, great confidence and the skills and opportunities they need to succeed. People will be healthy, able to find work and will enjoy living here. Our reputation for excellence in service to communities will be widely recognised and South Tyneside will be playing a full role in contributing to a thriving and prosperous region.

Courses are held at accessible, friendly local learning centres. We try to reflect the cultural diversity of South Tyneside through our inclusive course provision, and want every learner to achieve their full potential, enjoy learning, and, where they want to, gain national qualifications.

Our courses help people to gain up-to-date skills, increase confidence and broaden their interests. Whatever their educational background, age or interests we will help them to find a course that’s right for them. We provide a wide range of part time learning opportunities for people aged 16 and over. This includes basic education, introduction to work and leisure courses - leading in many cases to nationally recognised qualifications.

Many of our courses are free, and those that aren’t we hope are affordable. We are able to offer financial support to individuals attending courses in some cases. We also offer work based training, both for employers and employees.

We have produced our second annual report, giving a review of the year and information about how the service has grown.
