Arts Development

Arts development in South Tyneside is carried out by the council's Cultural Development unit, The Customs House and other organisations.

The Cultural Development Unit develops and manages numerous arts projects and activities throughout the Borough, including public art projects and Youth Arts Work in Neighbourhood Renewal Areas. The Unit is a first point of contact for people wanting to produce or be involved in an arts or cultural activity. For further information, please call Heather Walton on 0191 424 7841.

The Customs House manages arts and cultural activity in education through the Creative Partnerships North and South Tyneside and the arts in education agency, Custombuilt. The Arts Development Team also manages a range of arts and community activities. For further information please visit: www.customshouse.co.uk

Bede's World, South Shields Museums and Art Gallery, Arbeia Roman Fort, and Souter Lighthouse also offer arts and cultural activities.
