The Flash @ Hebburn art project
Flash @ Hebburn is a major piece of public art launched at Hebburn Riverside Park on 7 March 2009.
The installation by leading UK artist Charles Quick is at the cutting edge of new technologies in public art and will reflect the long history of Hebburn being a place of innovation.
The artwork will take the form of 12 x 8 metre columns powered by sustainable energy through photovoltaic panels. Revolutionary radio technology will be used to control a number of light sequences of blue and white LED lights to replicate industrial flashes of light to echo the area’s past.
The £150,000 project delivered by South Tyneside Council and funded by the Arts Council will complete the final piece of Art on the Riverside – the major programme of public art concentrated along the banks of the Rivers Tyne and Wear featuring works by local and international artists.
