We offer a range of large print books, both
fiction and non-fiction. We also have a number of magnifying glasses/sheets
to borrow.
At least one People's Network PC in each of
our libraries is equipped with the Magnice screen reader and Speakout
software for the blind and the partially sighted. This software can
assist with many other reading difficulties. Please ask any of our
staff or email peoples.network@southtyneside.gov.uk for further details.
Most of our libraries offer a range of talking
books on both tape and CD and newspapers; please contact your local
branch for more details.
These are available in Central Lending library
to make your book selecting easier.
This is a personal, friendly and free library
service delivered to individuals in their own home. It is available
to those who are unable to visit the library in person.
- We visit over 400 people in their own home
- We supply books to residential homes, sheltered housing and
nursing homes.
- We have a wide selection of large print and ordinary print books
- We also have books on tape available free to our users.
If you are unable to get to the library
for yourself, or to carry books through disability, sickness or
old age why not contact Maureen Cairns on 424 7870, full time carers
can also use this service.
Maureen is happy to visit all new members in their
homes. This visit is an opportunity for us to get to know you
and it gives us the information we need to be able to select
the right books for you. A member of staff or a volunteer will
call each month to change your books.
