How to join the library
There’s a building quite close to you where many murders have been committed, secret agents have been found there, aliens have invaded, love has conquered, several wars have been fought, rings of power have been hidden, witches have been burned and great lives have been lived.
If you haven’t discovered your local library, you’re missing out on a universe of imagination, adventure and knowledge.. all of which is absolutely free.
And they have newspapers, magazines and DVDs too! Libraries are really so wonderful that it’s quite easy to forget they’re there. Join today!

Benefits of being a library member
Your local library isn't just a place to find books, there's so much more on offer.
Membership of the Library is completely free and you can borrow:
- Books (up to 12 for 28 days)
- CD-roms
- DVD's
- Music
- Videos
By joining, you will also have access to a wide range of services such as the Internet, Microsoft Office and scanning facilities.
You can even reserve items that are not immediately available to you and can use your ticket in all departments at the Central Library, or any of our branch libraries.
Adults
Joining the library is free, and anyone aged 14 and over can become a member of the Adult Lending Library.
You will need to bring one form of identification with you, which must include your name and present address
You will be given a membership ticket, which you will need to bring with you each time you visit the library.

Children and Young People under 14 years
Anyone under the age of 14 can become a member of the junior library.
Simply ask for a membership form at the library counter, fill it in and ask a parent or guardian to sign it on the back, before handing it to the librarian.
Your parent or guardian may be asked for proof of address.
You can have a junior library ticket until you are 14, when you will get an adult ticket. You can still use the junior library though!

Using ICT facilities
Computers with Office facilities, scanning, printing and FREE Internet access are available in all of our libraries.
To use these facilities, you must be a library member and will need to read and consent to abide by the Libraries Acceptable Use Policy currently in force.
Under 16's
You will need to be a library member to register for ICT use, the librarian will send a letter explaining the procedure to your parent or legal guardian, with a copy of the Acceptable Use Policy. Once this form is signed and you have agreed to the safety terms you will be registered to use the computers.
