National Year of Reading
The National Year of Reading is a celebration of words in all formats. From books to newspapers to reading online whatever you do, whoever you are reading can offer you an avenue for learning, relaxation or escapism.
For the duration of the National Year of Reading a wide range of events and activities will be put on throughout South Tyneside by the library service and its partners.
Help us celebrate the National Year of Reading by joining your local library, attending one of our many activities or simply reading to relax and unwind by yourself or with your children.

If so then one of our reading groups could be for you!
We run groups for adults, teenagers and children in most libraries it's a great way to meet people and share your enjoyment for reading.
We host a wide range of children's sessions to introduce children to books from an early age. For the under 5's Baby Bouncing, Jiggle and Wiggle, Wobbly Walkers and Storytelling Sessions. For older children we have Cyber Chaos computer games workshops and a Playstation games club.
If its local heritage that you are interested in we host a local history group at the Central Library and are running a course with Adult Education called Victorian Reflections. Our heritage club sessions on the second Wednesday of the month are also very popular with a variety of speakers throughout the year.
