Other educational professionals involved:

The LEA operates a range of education services that may become involved in the identification and assessment of, and provision for, your child’s special educational needs.

Educational Psychologists

An educational psychologist (EP) will meet with you and your child to carry out assessments of her/his needs to ensure that the school is able to identify meaningful and appropriate targets in the IEP. After a Statutory Assessment is carried out, a formal report from the EP will be attached to the Statement or Note in Lieu of Statement.

Behaviour Support Services

The behaviour support service will become involved when the school requests support in meeting a child’s behavioural needs. Any support given can be within a school, or in a behaviour unit if the parents and school think that this is more appropriate. Intervention here is to enable the child to learn strategies to help them to manage their own behaviour more successfully.

Visiting Teacher Service

The visiting teacher service may become involved at any stage. A teacher will visit the school on a regular basis to work with your child and to support the school, parents and pupil in meeting particular needs of your child (e.g. Hearing or Visual Impairments).

Portage & Pre-School Service

Portage & Pre-school services offer you help at home, before your child moves on to nursery or school, to support the development of your child’s play, communication, relationships and learning within your family.
