South Tyneside Education Catering Service currently provides meals to schools across the borough, and in some we supply breakfast clubs, mid-morning snacks and after-school club food.
About 14,000 children per day enjoy a tasty 2 course meal at a great value price of £1.80.
We work closely with schools, health professionals, nutritionists and other agencies to promote healthy eating. In partnership with South Tyneside Foundation Healthcare Trust all of our recipes and products have been analysed for nutrient content, in line with the new national standards for school meals.
In addition our service supports local business sustainability, and purchase products from local suppliers as often as possible.
Meals
The Education Catering Service in South Tyneside provides lunches to pupils in all age groups within nursery, primary and secondary schools.
The pupils in our nursery schools are offered a balanced two-course meal.
The pupils in our primary and special schools are offered a choice of at least three main courses and two desserts, as well as providing yoghurt and fresh fruit.
The secondary schools are provided with a multi-choice cash cafeteria style of service with a large selection of dishes including main courses, salads, sandwiches, desserts and beverages.
All meals and snacks meet the new national standards for school lunches, which became effective from 1 September 2006.
The meals within the secondary sector are priced individually and are detailed on our tariffs in these schools.
We pride ourselves on the high level of skilled employees in our service, who are trained and developed to provide the best possible service to our customers.
