About the training
Our governor training is:
- Targeted at effective governance
- Tailored to the needs of Governing Bodies and individual governors
- Timely through the adoption of a pro-active approach
If a governing body buys back into the governing training service level agreement. Governors have unlimited attendance, free of any additional charge, at any training event arranged by the LA and advertised as part of the termly programme (the final decision on minimum course numbers would rest with the LA).
Training is offered as follows:
- A termly training programme
Provides a range of training courses addressing topical issues in school governance - Training for governing bodies
To provide bespoke training for individual governing bodies on request - Training support
Support the attendance of individual governors at training events (conferences, workshops and courses etc) outside and within the LA - Specific training
Provide specific training for particular groups or categories of governors, e.g. new governors, chairs
Online training
We have signed up with Governors E Learning (GEL) to provide effective and accessible governor training online.
This will allow governors to access a broad range of modules at their own pace and convenience, at no extra charge to governing bodies that subscribe to the governor training service level agreement.
All of the GEL online modules are designed to enhance the learning opportunities available for school governors.
Governors E Learning is a consortium of Local Authority Governor Services across the eastern region, working in partnership with the Eastern Leadership Centre (ELC).
The modules on the site have been developed as a generic approach to best practice.
These modules are not intended to replace local training and the chance to discuss issues with other governors. GEL governor training modules are designed to let you work at your own pace, helping you to improve your skills and knowledge on key topics.
Each module will guide you through the topic, with regular activities to reinforce the learning. You will also be offered a test at the end of the module.
