Cycling safety tips
- Follow the Highway Code
- Wear bright clothing and visibility aids
- Use correct lighting when riding in the dark
- Wear a cycle helmet
- Ride in single file on cycle tracks and lanes and on narrow roads
- Fit an audible warning device and use it
- Keep your cycle well maintained
- Don't ride on pavements
- Don't cycle close behind any motor vehicles
- Don't carry anything which could affect your balance or become tangled in your chain or wheels
- Don't cycle under the influence of drink or drugs
- Lock your bicycle
- Carry basic tools such as bike spanner and puncture repair kit/spare tube
- Carry an OS or A-to-Z with you
