Youth Support Service: Play development

Play Development

South Tyneside Youth Support Service - moving young people forwardThe Play Development Team provide free open access play opportunities to children and young people between the ages of 5 to 14 years, throughout the borough of South Tyneside.

This service is provided through year round play schemes and holiday play schemes.

Activities include:

  • Games
  • Sports
  • Arts and crafts
  • Face painting
  • Inter-club competitions
  • Inflatables
  • Trips and visits

The team co-ordinate and participate in special events and community festivals, which include themed events and family fun days. We have recently developed strong links with schools and are working in partnership in areas of provision and training.

Through the provision of training and advice we are pro-active in offering support throughout the borough to adults and community groups who are either currently working with, or who would like to work with children.

On an annual basis the Play Development Team co-ordinate and manage the Summer Activities Project for children and young people with complex needs. This is a five week event during the school summer holiday period.

We have a play policy that will link to the planned overarching strategy for work with children and young people.
