Youth Support Service: Thurston

Location

Thurston is set in 43 acres of grounds occupying an idyllic setting on the east shore of Lake Coniston. We have direct access to the lake and are perfectly situated for the Southern Fells, Grizedale Forest and the south lakeland coast. Although primarily an outdoor adventure education centre, Thurston is also an ideal base for intensive curriculum based courses in geography, ecology or environmental science, literacy and numeracy, art, music, languages, ICT and technology, gifted and talented or social inclusion.

Coniston itself is obviously associated with John Ruskin and Donald Campbell. The excellent Ruskin Museum is in the village and Brantwood is our near neighbour. The sculpture trails at Grizedale are easily accessible and the towns of Ambleside and Windermere are a short drive away.
