The Chief Executive's office represent the council nationally, regionally and sub-regionally.
The Chief Executive's office supports colleagues in all directorates and has corporate responsibility for key functional areas of policy, partnership, performance, value for money and strategic procurement.
Irene Lucas
Chief Executive
Key projects include the Chief Executive chairing the national Lifting the Burdens task force and Tyne and Wear Public Service Board.
Irene is also a member of the City Region Interim Board and the Institute of Public Policy Research (North East) Board.
Keith Harcus
Assistant Chief Executive
The Assistant Chief Executive leads on shared services and represents the Council on the Regional Improvement Partnership.
Regional Agenda
Responsible for representing the council at a number of regional bodies including Association of North East Councils, City Region, Regional Improvement Partnership and Tyne and Wear Public Service Board.
Policy
Responsible for developing the council's corporate policies and strategies. The team take a lead on a number of strategic initiatives including the Corporate Policy Framework and equality and diversity.

The team offer strategic and executive support to South Tyneside's Local Strategic Partnership.

Performance and information
Responsible for developing and supporting the council's performance management framework and developing and supporting the Corporate Information Systems.
Value for Money
Supports continuous improvement, driving the council's business process improvement programme to boost performance, increase satisfaction levels and reduce costs.
