Jarrow NMP: Community Chest Fund

Community Chest Fund

The Snooker Project receiving a cheque from the Community Chest FundOne of the many ways Jarrow Neighbourhood Management Partnership can support community and voluntary groups is through its Community Chest Fund. The fund opens three times a year (April, June and October).

Groups can apply for a maximum of £3000 for whatever their group may need to help them grow and develop. Decisions are made by a committee of community and voluntary representatives and cheques are presented during celebration evenings.

Who has had the grant so far?

See approved Community Chest applications 2007/08

Who can apply?

  • Voluntary and community groups
  • Faith based organisations (for non religious purposes)
  • ‘Not for profit’ organisations

Please note:  All groups must either be based within or have the majority of their members come from either Low Simonside, Central Jarrow or Hill Park and Lawson.

Do you need to have a bank account and a constitution?

It is much better if your group does have a constitution and its own bank account as we can not make cheques out to individual people. If your group does not have a bank account don’t worry, we can help you find an organisation that would be willing to hold the cheque for you. We can also help you to get your group constituted. This will help you if you are going to apply to other funding bodies and grant making schemes.

Who decides?

A panel made up of community representatives from the Jarrow Neighbourhood Partnership.

If a bid is successful, when will the grant be paid?

For each round the Community Chest Fund will open on the first Monday of the month and close on the last Friday. Decisions are then made the following week and cheques presented to successful groups during a celebration evening 2-3 weeks later.

Groups will have to complete monitoring and evaluation forms to show the difference the money made to the group.

How do I make an application?

The community chest is now open for applications. The closing date for applications is Friday 1 August 2008.
