Jarrow NMP: Service Improvement Fund

Service Improvement Fund

The Jarrow Neighbourhood Management Partnership has introduced a Service Improvement Fund that can fund improvements to services in the JNMP area.

What will be considered for funding?

  • Pilots, which if they work well, could be sustained through mainstream budgets
  • Transition costs of changing the way a service is delivered in order to become more responsive or joined up
  • As a lever to bring in other funding which will lead to service improvement
Although there are no rules about matched funding, the total funds taper so it is expected that all activities will have some form of matched funding from 2008/9 at the latest.

What cannot be funded?

  • Activities that simply plug a gap and which have a short term impact only
  • Work that is a statutory responsibility of local, central government or the legal responsibility of a statutory body
  • Activities which should be more appropriately funded from other sources
  • Routine running costs of existing services
  • Maintenance costs
  • Religious or political activities
  • Costs already incurred
  • Honorariums paid to individuals (reasonable expenses and professional fees can be funded).

Who can apply?

Applications for funding can be made by:

  • Statutory bodies delivering public services
  • Voluntary, community, and not-for-profit organisations delivering public services (Note: there is a separate community chest aimed at improving community engagement)

Which areas are eligible?

The people who benefit should live in Central Jarrow, Low Simonside, or Hill Park and Lawson. However, activities which benefit some people who live just outside the area will be considered, provided most of those who benefit live within the area.

A map showing these areas is included in the application pack.
