Who are we?
TEDCO (Tyneside Economic Development Company Ltd.) is a leading company in enterprise development that re-invests its profit. The company was formed in 1984 and is located in Jarrow, South Shields, Boldon and North Shields.

TEDCO helps new and established businesses by providing information and advice on every aspect of running a business, including business start-up, survival, success and growth.  The Company also manages three business centres in South Tyneside offering a range of workshop, manufacturing and office space with flexible terms.  Additionally, through its Enterprise in Education project, TEDCO works with more than 4000 young people each year, inspiring them to become more enterprising.

Each year, TEDCO helps people across Tyneside to create more than 300 new businesses and assists over 500 businesses to develop and grow.

What we have to offer

Business Support - Pre-start

TEDCO employ a team of UCanB Enterprise Champions to spread the self-employment message at grass roots level through community networks in South Tyneside. The UCanB project has been funded by South Tyneside Means Business, and also supports community and voluntary organisations to train their staff, volunteers and clients in enterprise and business related skills.

Business Support - Starting a business

TEDCO’s Business Support team is committed to making sure that our customers are given every opportunity to create a successful business. Our support and advice are free and cover all aspects of trading, including areas such as business skills, marketing, business plans, finance, finding premises and employing people.

We can also provide specialist support according to specific requirements in areas such as marketing, web site design and health and safety.

Business Support - Running a business

With a full range of business support services and three managed business premises across Tyneside, TEDCO provides support for businesses as they grow.

We can offer assistance with:

  • Managing money;
  • Marketing/ Market research;
  • Networking;
  • Business mentoring;

Our Business Support is about knowing the right people as well as knowing how. We don’t pretend that we know everything but we can find someone who will be right for a business, whatever their challenges and whatever stage they’re at. Sometimes these services are free, sometimes subsidised; we promise to keep our clients informed.

Enterprising Young People

At TEDCO we recognise the importance of encouraging a ‘can do’ attitude in young people. Our dedicated Enterprise in Education team achieves this by offering broad based enterprise development and business awareness programmes to schools throughout the North East.

Through our programmes we support schools and teachers to deliver enterprise and business learning activities as part of the curriculum, whilst building young peoples’ self-esteem, aspirations, confidence, and their enterprise and business skills.

Premises for New & Growing Businesses

TEDCO's purpose-built office, light assembly and manufacturing units are available at three locations in South Tyneside. All of our spaces are ideal for new and growing small businesses.

Each of our centres provides access to a wide range of business support services to help businesses as they develop. All three centres feature communal meeting spaces and have been designed to provide easy access for everyone. 

Our award-winning, friendly customer service team will always go that extra mile to make sure that our customers’ requirements are met.

Who we are in touch with

We work closely with a wide range of partners. We have well-developed links with South Tyneside Council, South Tyneside Means Business, Business Link North East, Government Office for the North East and One NorthEast. We are also involved in a formal capacity with the Local Strategic Partnership, the Economic Development Working Party, the Lifelong Learning Partnership, Groundwork Trust and the Enterprise Partnership. TEDCO Chair the Enterprise Sub Group of the South Tyneside Enterprise Partnership (STEP). We also have delivery partnerships with enterprise agencies in Tyne and Wear.

TEDCO is also involved with the Board of Young Enterprise in the region and the North East Chamber of Commerce in South Tyneside.

Our role in the LSP

Our main roles are in the delivery of objectives in Enterprise and Employment, Education, Environment and Social Inclusion.

We see our role in Education as sowing the seeds for a more enterprising culture: as long-term enterprise development work, helping to raise aspirations and confidence in South Tyneside and contributing to a more inclusive Borough.

In Environment, TEDCO sees important roles in sustainability, social inclusion and economic development, particularly in opportunities for market making around new technologies.
