South Tyneside Roadworks
This map displays notices of works on the public highway in South Tyneside, including major and minor roadworks. The notices are provided by utility companies. Roadworks carried out by South Tyneside Council are not shown (for this information download the document detailing works likely to have an impact on traffic flow). We are hoping to map all roadworks soon.
For more information about the works being carried out, please contact the relevant utility company or email us at: highwaysandtransportation@southtyneside.gov.uk
Location of roadworks
On the map, unless a map reference has been provided, roadwork symbols
are positioned at the end of each street. Currently utilities companies are only required to provide a street reference. As a result the map location of each roadwork is approximate. New legislation will soon require them to provide map coordinates for a more accurate location. If there is more than one set of roadworks on one road, the map symbols will display on top of one another. This is again due to not having the full coordinates from the utility companies.
Information provided
Utility companies must provide notification of any work on the public highway to the local highway authority before work begins. However, emergency roadworks can start before notice is given.
The information contained within the map is automatically updated 3 times a day.
The Highways Agency is responsible for maintaining major roads such as the A19.
