Future of the Planet in Mind

The future of the planet will be under discussion when members of South Tyneside Council's Neighbourhood Services Scrutiny Committee next meet.

They will hear about the new Do Your Bit campaign which forms a key part of South Tyneside Council's new Environment Strategy and will see the authority and its partners take a tough stance to combat environmental problems such as litter, graffiti, dog fouling and fly-tipping.

Committee Chair Councillor Jim Perry said: "The Environment Strategy is a commitment to the future environment of South Tyneside and its seven key themes set out action for the Borough in the context of global climate change and the need to work for a more sustainable future for everyone."

Those attending the Scrutiny Committee meeting will have the chance to see a presentation on Do Your Bit, hear about the successes so far and also learn of the Council's involvement in the Carbon Trust Local Authority Carbon Management Programme.

Councillor Perry added: "This is an important element of our determination here in South Tyneside to think global, act local, doing all we can to secure the future for our children and their children.

"The Carbon Trust helps the public sector and business to cut carbon emissions and supports the development of low-carbon technologies."

Other items on the agenda include tackling anti-social behaviour in South Tyneside and progress on the Cleadon Park Regeneration Scheme.

The Neighbourhood Services Scrutiny Committee will meet in the Council Chamber of South Shields Town Hall on Tuesday, 12th July, at 10am.
